Origin: Newfoundland
Fish Facts: Our organic mussels are grown using the French Bouchot method (rope grown) off the coast of Newfoundland. This method requires wooden poles to be dug into the seabed with nets strung in between. This method is beneficial for the mussels as it keeps them suspended from the seafloor. Suspension allows for better filtration of water and food particles, as well as keeps the mussels from taking in any sand or grit. This results in faster growth and a higher meat yield.
Taste/Cooking: Compared to other shellfish, mussels contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids as well as others. For approximately 100g of mussels, you will get ≈20g of protein, ≈23% of your daily recommended dose of Vitamin C, and ≈37% of your daily recommended iron. Common methods of preparation include steaming, braising, or adding to any soup/chowder. Mussels are a very versatile ingredient, however, a popular pairing would to be to serve in a tomato sauce with garlic and fresh herbs or steamed with white wine and onion.
Sustainability: Recommended product of Oceanwise.
Friendly Suggestion: Please check for any orange fluid. Store the product under 4 c in a damped condition with ice or a wet cloth. Before serving, rinse the mussels with cold fresh water and drain water.
