Salted Cod was originally produced as a way to preserve the cod in the days before refrigerators and freezers. Now, Salted Cod is consumed for its unique flavour and texture.
Taste/Cooking: Contrary to its name, Salted Cod has a sweet, mild fish flavour and a solid texture. To prepare Salted Cod, it is best to place the cod in a bowl of water overnight or soak in water for 1 hour before boiling for 15-20 minutes to remove access salt from the fish. Salted Cod is best when used in chowders/stews, fritters or on top of pasta, rice, or salads.
