Fish Facts: Contrary to popular perception, Black Cod is part of the Sablefish family not Cod. This deep-sea fish dwells at depths of up to 5000 feet and can be found anywhere in the North Pacific Ocean. Considered to be a high oil fish, Black Cod is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids. Caught using the longline method, our fish guarantees sustainability.
Taste/Cooking: Since the fish consists of large flakes of delicate meat, the texture of Black Cod is often compared to that of the Patagonian Toothfish (aka Chilean Seabass). Its flavour is considerably mild with a rich fatty start and a sweet buttery finish. Common methods of preparing include; broiling, baking, panfrying, smoking, or steaming. This fish would pair well with our teriyaki, miso marinade, as well as others.
Sustainability: Recommended product of Oceanwise.
