Fish Facts: Aji also known as Japanese Horse Mackerel/ Japanese Scad is easily recognized by its silvery skin, large eyes, and lateral scutes. This fish can be enjoyed year-round, however, Aji is believed to taste better in the summer according to locals and fishermen. Aji is caught at depths of 50M – 275M by using traps or line gear.
Taste/ Cooking: Aji is an extremely versatile fish as it can be enjoyed raw/cured for sushi. Other popular alternatives for preparation include deep frying or grilling.
